Port Salerno is known as town of great uniquity. Originally known as just a small railroad stop then called "Alicia", change grew it into a small fishing village, and was officially named "Salerno". By the 1920's Salerno's population boomed as the fishing industry took hold, drawing in even more people. By the 1950's growth had again brought change to Salerno. It became known as its current name, Port Salerno. This town's past makes it the unique place it still is today.
Known for its lavish natural beauty, this town is frequented by fishermen and casual boaters alike, as it is only two miles from the Atlantic Ocean. It is well known as a boating and fishing center of Florida. As such, it holds many fishing tournaments throughout the year.
